Hot Chocolate with Chocolate Chips

You only need two ingredients to make this easy hot chocolate: milk and chocolate chips.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups milk, any type (12 ounces; 340 grams)
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate chips (1 ½ ounces; 45 grams)

Optional Ingredients

  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • pinch ground cinnamon
  • pinch salt

Toppings

  • marshmallows
  • whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Heat milk until it simmers (small bubbles start to form on the edges of pan) in a small pan over medium heat.

  2. Add chocolate chips. Reduce heat to low. Whisk until smooth and the chocolate chips are melted. If using, add the salt, vanilla, and/or cinnamon.

  3. Pour into a mug and top with marshmallows or whipped cream. Enjoy.

Ingredient Notes

Milk: Any type of milk can be used in this recipe. For added richness, replace some of the milk with cream or half and half.

Chocolate Chips: Dark chocolate chips work best. Some brands of chocolate chips clump before melting. Stir over low heat until the chocolate is fully melted.
