Thick Hot Chocolate

This thick hot chocolate is rich and creamy. The wonderful thickness comes from the combination of chocolate and a little cornstarch. ⁣Adding a little vanilla extract and a pinch of cinnamon gives it a lovely flavor boost. ⁣

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon sugar, plus more to taste⁣
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 cups milk, whole milk is recommended⁣
  • 2 ounces dark chocolate, chopped⁣

Optional⁣

  • Splash of vanilla
  • pinch of cinnamon

Toppings

  • whipped cream
  • marshmallows

Instructions

  1. Whisk together the granulated sugar and cornstarch. Add about one tablespoon of the milk. ⁣
  2. In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the remaining milk and the sugar-cornstarch mixture. Stir to combine. Bring to a gentle boil.⁣
  3. Turn off the heat. Add the chopped chocolate. Stir until the chocolate is melted. If using, add the vanilla and cinnamon.

  4. Pour into a mug and whipped cream and/or marshmallows.⁣
