This simple recipe makes a rich and thick hot chocolate. Adding a little vanilla extract and a pinch of cinnamon gives it a lovely flavor boost.

If you’ve ever had Italian hot chocolate, you know it’s an experience. It’s like drinking a cup of warm pudding. While I love that indulgence, sometimes I crave something that’s thick, but not quite that thick. Enter this hot chocolate recipe. It’s richer and thicker than traditional hot chocolate, but not so thick that you could eat it with a spoon.
The deep flavor comes from dark chocolate. This is one instance where you’ll want to chop the chocolate instead of using chocolate chips. It takes a few extra minutes, but we’re making hot chocolate here—it’s the perfect chance to slow down and enjoy the process.
And that luscious thickness? It comes from cornstarch, which I whisk together with the sugar to prevent clumping.
I often add a splash of vanilla extract or a pinch of cinnamon to my mug. They enhance the flavor without overpowering the richness of the chocolate.
Whether it’s a snowy day or a moment of indulgence, this hot chocolate is the perfect way to treat yourself. It’s rich enough to feel special, yet simple enough to make whenever you need a little warmth and comfort. So, take your time, savor each sip, and let this cozy drink bring a bit of joy to your day.
