These seasoned oyster crackers never last long at a party. The recipe is a variation of ranch crackers but uses a blend of spices instead of a packet of ranch dressing mix.

This cracker mix is the savory version of my Christmas cracker candy recipe. And just like that one, these crackers are easy to make and irresistible.

    Ingredients.

    • Oyster crackers: Any oyster crackers (sometimes called soup crackers) work in this mix.
    • Butter: Melted butter adds a nice flavor and richness.
    • Garlic and Onion Powder: Use garlic and onion powder, not garlic or onion salt.
    • Dried Basil and Dill: Adds a nice ranch-like flavor to the crackers
    • Cayenne Pepper: For spicy crackers, use cayenne pepper.
    • Chopped Nuts: To turn these seasoned crackers into a bar mix, add your favorite chopped nuts before baking.

How to Make Seasoned Oyster Crackers.

    1. Make the butter topping. Melt a stick of butter and add the spices and seasonings. Stir until everything is really well combined.
    2. Coat the crackers. Pour the topping over the crackers. Stir gently until the crackers are coated. Sometimes the seasoning mix clumps. If this happens, just keep stirring.
    3. Bake. Spread the crackers onto a pan and bake for about 15 minutes. This helps the crackers absorb the buttery topping.

    Serving and Storage.

Serve these crackers as a snack or part of a charcuterie board. They keep for about a week in a sealed container.

    Prep Time 5 minutes
    Cook Time 15 minutes
    Total Time 20 minutes
    Servings 5 cups

    Ingredients

    • 1 (9 ounce) bag oyster crackers
    • 1 cup chopped nuts (about 6 ounces), optional
    • 1 stick butter (4 ounces)
    • 2 teaspoons dried basil
    • 1 teaspoon onion powder
    • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1 teaspoon dried dill
    • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper, optional

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 250℉. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    2. Place oyster crackers in a large mixing bowl. If using nuts, stir them in now.
    3. Melt butter in a small pan over low heat or in the microwave in a microwave-safe bowl on low heat.
    4. Remove the melted butter from the heat and stir in the dried basil, onion powder, garlic powder, dried dill, and cayenne pepper (if using). Pour mixture over the crackers and stir to combine. If the seasoning clumps, stir gently to break up the clumps.
    5. Spread the crackers onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15 minutes.
    6. Let the crackers cool before serving. Store in a container with a lid or a zip-top bag. Crackers keep for about one week.
