This is the perfect apple crisp. It’s easy to make and is loaded with a crisp oat-streusel topping and filled with cinnamon-spiced apples.

Baked apple crisp in pan with wooden serving spoon.

How to Make an Easy Apple Crisp

    • Prepare the Topping. Oats, flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon make for a crunchy topping. And to make it easy, stir in melted butter. No need to cut in cold butter!
    • Prepare the Filling. A combination of tart and sweet apples makes for a flavorful filling. Use Granny Smith and Honeycrisp or any combination you love.
    • Taste Before Baking. After adding the sugar to the filling, taste it. If the filling needs more sweetness, add additional brown sugar.
    • Bake Until Bubbly. This apple crisp takes about an hour to bake. Look for the filling to be bubbling and the topping to be light brown.
    • Serve Warm. Apple crisp tastes great warm. Serve with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an added treat.

    Easy Apple Crisp

This is the perfect apple crisp. It's easy to make and is loaded with a crisp oat-streusel topping and filled with cinnamon-spiced apples.

    Prep Time 20 minutes
    Cook Time 1 hour
    Servings 8 servings

    Ingredients

    For the Topping

    • ¾ cup flour
    • ½ cup packed light or dark brown sugar
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • ¼ teaspoon salt
    • 1 cup quick cook or old-fashioned oats
    • ½ cup butter, melted (4 ounces)

    For the Filling

    • 8 large apples about 5 pounds, peeled and sliced
    • Zest and juice of one lemon
    • ¼ cup packed light or dark brown sugar plus more as needed
    • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • ¼ teaspoon salt
    • ¼ cup flour

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 350° F (177 °C). Lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking pan with softened butter.

    2. Prepare the Topping. Whisk together flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add the oats and stir to combine. Stir in the melted butter until there are no spots of dry topping in the bowl. Set the topping aside.

    3. Prepare the Filling. Stir together the apple slices, lemon zest and juice. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Taste. Add more sugar if needed. Add the flour and stir until all the apple slices are evenly coated.

    4. Spread the apples into an even layer in the prepared pan. Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apple slices.
    5. Bake until the filling bubbles, about an hour minutes. Remove pan from the oven. Allow apple crisp to cool for about 15 minutes before serving.
    6. Store leftover apple crisp covered in the refrigerator for up to four days. Reheat before serving in the microwave on low heat for about 30 seconds.
